FiveThirtyEight looking for interns (paid!)

http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/a-call-for-fivethirtyeight-summer-interns/

We’re hiring interns! This summer, FiveThirtyEight will take on two — a data reporter and a computational journalist. Here are the details on the paid internships:

The data reporter will collect political polls and enter them into our database, as well as do research for staff writers. Aspiring journalists will also have the chance to pitch their own stories. We’re seeking candidates skilled at data-mining, data entry and fact-checking. We’d prefer candidates who have experience using Python, Ruby and R, and working as a writer and reporter.

The computational journalist will help develop internal tools, interactive graphics, web applications and predicative systems. The ideal candidate will have a background in computer science combined with a deep interest in journalism. Knowledge of Python and Ruby is desirable, as is experience with database systems.

We prefer candidates who have worked in college and perhaps professional news organizations.

If you’re thinking,”That’s me!,” here’s some additional information. Our internship program runs June 9 through Aug. 14. You must be available for the duration of the internship, which is based in New York. You must be enrolled in a U.S. college or university and taking at least one class at the time of application. Candidates should be graduating in summer 2014, fall 2014 or spring 2015.

For more details, fully read each job description, which are linked above. Applicants must apply online. We will not look at applications emailed to us. The positions are filled on a rolling basis.
