We are inviting journalism students attending Texas colleges and universities to apply for the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors Buster Haas Minority Internship. Students who are selected will intern for 10 weeks at a newspaper of 30,000 circulation or less and receive a $1,000 stipend each month they are there in addition to $1,000 in moving expenses. In a world where internships are becoming more often than not unpaid, this is a great opportunity not only to get a paid internship, but be placed at a newspaper where students can hone their skills.
Additionally, students will receive a $500 scholarship the following fall when they return to school. Students who have won this scholarship have described it as “eye-opening,” “life-changing” and a number of other adjectives related to how this scholarship provides them with the boost and the clips to get their journalism career started. Please distribute this e-mail to your students or print it out and put on community bulletin boards. Please get the word out.
The deadline has been extended to Feb. 21, 2014. We want more applicants.
If you have any questions, or your students have any questions, feel free to e-mail me or call me at the number below.
