Check out this writing lesson on dynamic verbs from San Fransisco journalist Constance Hale, via The New York Times. After you read it, take Hale’s suggestion: Practice. Find something to watch on campus – an athletic event (perhaps The Shorthorn softball game, a residence hall ice cream social, a squirrel frolicking between students on the UC mall … or a story you are working on). Watch with intention and describe what you see. Open your senses. Consider how best to unfold the scene.
